Texas has a whorehouse in it! Nothing says big spring spectacle like Dolly Parton running a brothel. Join us Sunday, June 7 at 4:00pm for a special $6 screening!! of THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS.

About the Film:

THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS follows Miss Mona (Dolly Parton), the legendary madam of the Chicken Ranch brothel, and Sheriff Ed (Burt Reynolds), her longtime lover and reluctant accomplice, as they try to keep their perfectly understood little arrangement intact. When a self-righteous TV crusader rolls into town determined to expose the Chicken Ranch, the entire setup is thrown into chaos and the town is forced to pick a side. Miss Mona, however, is not going quietly. Featuring iconic Dolly Parton performances and a soundtrack packed with earworms like “A Lil’ Ole Bitty Pissant Country Place,” “Sneakin’ Around,” “Hard Candy Christmas,” and “I Will Always Love You,” this is small-town scandal, spectacle, and survival at full volume.

About the Director:

Colin Higgins was an acclaimed writer, director, and producer (best known for HAROLD and MAUDE and 9 TO 5) whose work often centered outsiders and underdogs living outside accepted social norms. THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS was released in 1982 at the height of the Moral Majority era, a period marked by rising public moral crusades and intensified scrutiny of sexuality and visibility. An openly gay filmmaker working within mainstream Hollywood, Higgins brought a consistent empathy to stories about people and communities labeled as “deviant” or outside respectability. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1985, at a time when treatment options were extremely limited, and began planning how to use his legacy in service of the communities he cared about. In 1986, he established the Colin Higgins Foundation to support LGBTQ youth and organizations, including GLSEN and HIV/AIDS prevention and outreach programs, extending his commitment to justice, dignity, and care beyond his films.
