AMERICAN DOCTOR is a searing, vérité documentary by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Poh Si Teng. It follows three American physicians from very different life circumstances – Mark Permutter (Jewish), Thaer Ahmad (Palestinian) and Feroze
Sidhwa (Zoroastrian) – on a mission to Gaza’s besieged Nasser Medical Complex, along with their return to the United States.

The film takes us to the medical frontlines of Gaza, where it unflinchingly captures the profound challenges of responding to catastrophic emergencies in a hospital facing critical shortages of medicine, food, water, fuel, and equipment. Back in the U.S., the doctors keep their promise to the colleagues and patients they left behind by telling their story, despite intense criticism at times, to elected officials in Congress, to the media, and to the public. They tell their story to anyone who will listen.

In the words of Director Teng, who spent her life savings to finance the film, “This film is our way of honoring those we have lost—and fighting for the living. It is about bearing witness, speaking truth to power, and refusing to look away.”

A special Palestinian art exhibit will accompany the screening.
